SOLSC: Happiness is . . . - 7/31

The Slice of Life Story Challenge
is hosted by the Two Writing Teachers.

Happiness is . . . An Updated Version

Yesterday I wrote a slice about the beauty of collaboration.  Today's slice is a perfect illustration reflecting the power of collaborating.  Diana, an author at One Literacy Coach and an e-colleague participating in the SOLSC, shared this great idea of narrowing the focus of the "Happiness is . . ." list/poem that I wrote a few weeks ago.  Thank you, Diana!  Here is my attempt at narrowing the focus of my slice for today.

Happiness is . . . love.
The passionate and forgiving love of my husband.
The unconditional and trusting love of my daughters.
The enthusiastic, encouraging, and honest love of my mother.
The safe and enduring love of my family.
The generous, soft and cuddly love of my four-legged fur ball.
The compassionate and supportive love of my friends.
The admirable and dedicated love of my colleagues and students.
The respectful and inspirational love of my blogging buddies and e-colleagues.
Love . . . is happiness.

Can you tell I'm in a good place right now?  Feel the love.

  1. I'm so glad I checked out your post before I left for school! Don't you love poetry? Once again, you have written a piece that would be an awesome mentor text for kids. I like the way your beginning and ending are connected. Guess I'm feeling the love today too. :)

  2. That is powerful to narrow it down. It is interesting to think about the broader version compared to the narrower, each lending to their own tone.

  4. Happines is...love.
    Truely I agree..
Love, in the broad sense, is unit, everything, ourselves and all the things that suround us.
    Experiment and live the love.
    Love is... happiness.
I loved how you opened the circle of your poem and how you closed it.

  5. I'm with Diana and Mrs. V - what a great idea to narrow it down - and yet it expands the theme as well. Love becomes so well rounded in the way you've given examples.

An Interview with Educator/Momma/Writer Ruth Ayres Celebrating #EnticingWriters + Giveaway!

I love sharing book titles with close friends, so I'm happy you are here! I want to share a book that you must add to your to-be-read list. Ruth Ayres has a brand new book titled  Enticing Hard-To-Reach Writers   published by Stenhouse Publishers. It's another must read from Ruth. There are many professional development books available to learn about mastering our craft of teaching.   However, there are only a few that make a true impact -- and this is one book that weaves raw truth, research, practical ideas, and story all in one {cute} little package.  In  Enticing Hard-To-Reach Writers , Ruth allows her worlds to collide during the creation:  "In this book, I entwine my three story lines as educator, momma, and writer." (p. 6) And she does this in an amazing way through sharing stories of her family, adoption, children living in hard places -- and doing their best  -- and healing. She shares how we can use research to understand how to
