SOLSC: A Warm Fuzzy - 11/31

The Slice of Life Story Challenge
is hosted by the Two Writing Teachers.

A Warm Fuzzy

Because I administered state tests this week, my schedule was a bit mixed up.  I could not meet with all of my small groups.  I had a first grade friend who consistently questioned my whereabouts.  Every day this week I heard:

"Where were you today?"

"How come you didn't come pick me up?"

"Why do you have to help them with testing?"

"What about Day 6?  Will we miss Day 6?"

"Well, I guess if you need another day to help out, you can take another day."

Finally on Thursday, testing wrapped up and I was able to meet with my first grade group.  As I went to this little friend's classroom to pick him up, I opened the door softly, and his eyes met my gaze.  The sheer joy on his face was priceless.  I thought he was going to explode with excitement as he dropped his book box on the floor.  Forget about the quiet entrance.

Some days are tough.  This state testing put me in a funk -- tired, crabby, and the lack of teaching with joy and curiosity cramped my style.

This was just what I needed to end the week.  Thanks for the warm fuzzy with a BIG smile!

  1. It's nice to be missed. I know the joy in your little friend's face. I've seen it with my own students. Nice slice, I'm glad you ended on a positive note for the week.
