Another special day
with friends and family --
It's birthday PARTY day!

My girls have been planning a birthday party at our local roller skating venue, Orbit, for months. I decided to call and start inquiring about party packages in February and I am so thankful I did!

I learned Orbit Skate Center was closing its doors at the end of March after 46 years in business. They received an offer that they couldn't refuse from a private party to purchase the rink and transition it over to an ice rink. There are not too many roller rinks around any more, so we were disappointed ...

However, we agreed to move up the party! Their birthday is in May, but we celebrated with their friends today with a skating party. One of the last birthday parties ever at Orbit ... what a memory!

Therefore, I am treating today as their birthday! They were treated to sprinkle pancakes with a special "Happy Birthday PARTY day to you!" singing. And tonight we will head out for a birthday dinner and open gifts from friends.

The beautiful thing? We will do this again (minus the friend birthday party) in almost a month! You can never celebrate your precious children too much, right?!

    Celebrate the precious children! This looks wonderful! We've been using our roller rink a lot lately. I'm sad to hear yours is closing, but so glad you got to make this memory!

    I can feel your sadness about the roller skating rink closing. At least you got to enjoy it a bonus birthday celebration, too!

    Time for some ice skates! I used to love roller skating. I couldn’t get enough of it. My worst date ever story was with a guy I met at the roller rink! I should have known it was going to be a disaster when I found out he didn’t need to rent skates because he had his own!

    What a great excuse for an extra party! We still have a roller rink in our town. I wonder how long it will last. I used to love roller skating growing up. Glad you enjoyed!

    I love this!!!! My favorite line, "You can never celebrate your children too much!" Big truth here. And sometimes I think the Universe sends you messages in a lot of different ways. Last night, one of my sons said something that made me think, "Uh-oh, I'm doing way too much criticizing and not nearly enough affirming." And then I read your line… Lots to think about!

soLs: a week

Slice of Life Stories hosted by the  Two Writing Teachers I can't believe it's already been one whole week. Sometimes vacations are over in a blink, but other times vacations move slowly to enjoy every moment.  That's how this vacation is going - slowly, but with so much to enjoy. Of course, it is hard being away from home and the every-day-usual, but what I have truly enjoyed the most is the evenings.  After the girls are tucked in bed, it becomes my time to do what I choose to do because I have NO to-do list!  Nothing!  No cleaning, no laundry (thanks Mom!), no dinner (thanks Dad!), no dishes, no nothing.  Instead I have guilt-free time to read books, browse Twitter, catch up on blog reading, scrounge...

soLs: a (proud) little secret
