solsc: sleep tight 3/31

March Slice of Life Story Challenge

Join us for a month of writing!

My almost-four year old daughters have been asleep now for nearly two hours.  They were once tucked in tight under their pink butterfly blankets as snug as a bug in a rug.

After some tossing and turning, arms are hanging off the side, legs are sprawled out, blankets askew.

I quietly walk into their room.  The ocean waves from the noise machine and the glow of the nightlight are a constant calm.

Once I was so afraid of waking them.

Carefully, I slide, push, move, and tuck my babies back under the blankets.  Sometimes their eyes flash open, but the eyelids slowly close without a word.

A kiss on the forehead.  Another squeeze goodnight.

"I love you," I whisper in their ear, "Sleep tight."

Watching my sweet angels sleep and kissing them a final goodnight is one of my favorite moments in my day.

  7. These are the special moments that we enjoy and cherish. God has given us two special little girls and we know that they are in His care every day and every night. Love ya, Mom (P.S. You made Dad cry with your tender writing.)

  8. I could sit for hours and just watch my kids sleep! I have a college student who takes "college naps" and I still sit and watch her. So that never gets old. Beautiful memories! I loved Kevin's "lifted line" too! He is so creative!

  9. I sent my baby off to college this year. Sometimes I sleep in her bed to remember. She is doing great and I'm proud of her but I miss her. I love it when all the kids are home and in their beds.

  10. I miss the solitude of my children's sleep when they were little. I would watch them sleep then enjoy the peace and quiet of the house. Now, I go to bed at the same time as they do...and usually am the first one to fall asleep!

  11. Grab it up and hold it tight in your heart Michelle as I've said before it goes so fast. I love that you let those of us with "big kids" now into your precious baby's lives. Give them a kiss from Oklahoma!

An Interview with Educator/Momma/Writer Ruth Ayres Celebrating #EnticingWriters + Giveaway!

I love sharing book titles with close friends, so I'm happy you are here! I want to share a book that you must add to your to-be-read list. Ruth Ayres has a brand new book titled  Enticing Hard-To-Reach Writers   published by Stenhouse Publishers. It's another must read from Ruth. There are many professional development books available to learn about mastering our craft of teaching.   However, there are only a few that make a true impact -- and this is one book that weaves raw truth, research, practical ideas, and story all in one {cute} little package.  In  Enticing Hard-To-Reach Writers , Ruth allows her worlds to collide during the creation:  "In this book, I entwine my three story lines as educator, momma, and writer." (p. 6) And she does this in an amazing way through sharing stories of her family, adoption, children living in hard places -- and doing their best  -- and healing. She shares how we can use research to understand how to
