solsc: anticipation 25/31



March Slice of Life Story Challenge
hosted at the Two Writing Teachers
Join us for a month of writing!


First thing in the morning, this is all I heard.

"Are Grandma and Grandpa here?"
"Will they go in the driveway?"
M. moved the heavy blinds to peek out the front window.  "What are you doing?" I asked.
She looked out at me, "I'm going to wait here until Grandma and Grandpa get here."
Then she looked back out the window, "Are they here yet?"


An hour later, this is all I heard.

"Are they still coming?"
"I don't think they are coming."
M. looked out the side window this time.  "Mommy, Grandma and Grandpa aren't coming."
"They are coming.  They will be here after lunch. Remember, it's a long drive," I reassured her.
"Oh, not yet?"



A couple hours later, while running some errands, this is all I heard.

"Will Grandma and Grandpa be there when we get back?"
"Is Grandma at the library now?"
I questioned M.'s thinking, "What do you mean?"
"You said she would be at the library."
"No, honey, I said she will go with us on Wednesday again to the library."


After lunch, this is all I heard.

"I want Grandma and Grandpa to come."
"Are they here yet?"
"You said they would be here."
M. saw someone walk by the window.  She jumped up and looked. "Who's here? They are here?"
"Hi Grandma and Grandpa!"


Grandma and Grandpa are finally here.

    I shared some of the same in my slice today. Oh, the anticipation. Such a wonderful welcome after a long drive. Looking forward to the rest of the week. Love ya, Mom

    A very familiar scenario takes place at my house on those special Grandma and Grandpa days. I remember doing the same as a child, brings back such wonderful memories.

    I love how you used their words at various points in the day to show their excitement and impatient waiting. I remember those feelings when waiting for my grandparents, and that's been a very long time ago. What fun you will have this week!

    I love sensing how much your kiddos love their grandparents through the repeated questioning about their arrival. I bet Grandma and Grandpa were just as excited to see their grand kids! I hope you all have a wonderful time together!

    This made me cry - my parents live in London, and seeing them was always an odyssey. There's a lovely simplicity in being able to want this, and for it to be possible with some ease.

soLs: a week

Slice of Life Stories hosted by the  Two Writing Teachers I can't believe it's already been one whole week. Sometimes vacations are over in a blink, but other times vacations move slowly to enjoy every moment.  That's how this vacation is going - slowly, but with so much to enjoy. Of course, it is hard being away from home and the every-day-usual, but what I have truly enjoyed the most is the evenings.  After the girls are tucked in bed, it becomes my time to do what I choose to do because I have NO to-do list!  Nothing!  No cleaning, no laundry (thanks Mom!), no dinner (thanks Dad!), no dishes, no nothing.  Instead I have guilt-free time to read books, browse Twitter, catch up on blog reading, scrounge...

soLs: a (proud) little secret

Slice of Life Stories hosted by the  Two Writing Teachers Come here.   Come closer.   I have a secret to share with you.   I'm really excited about it and I haven't told anyone except my mom , my hubby, and my friend, colleague, and writing buddy .
