watching

This is one of the "stories" I captured yesterday on my way to work while stopped for a moment at a red light.  Again, reminding me of that one child and the two children who have constantly been on my mind.


watching
a boy walking
alone
head down
hoodie covering his face
hands shoved deep in his pockets
backpack heavy reaching to the ground
forcing his shoulders down


wanting
to pickup his chin
push back his shoulders
look him in the eyes
smile to let him know
it's a new day, a fresh start
let's begin again
for you are not alone

    I wish that it was so, but so many are in the backs of classes, hiding out, aren't they? You are wonderful to write about this, Michelle. I see one or two each day as I drive by a middle school-groups of kids having fun, but there is often that "one" alone. You've shown him well.

    We can only hope and pray that at the end of his journey he will have met that special person who will give him a smile and encouragement to let him know that he is not alone. There are many, unfortunately, children and adults who never know that someone is there for them. Let each of us share that smile and love. Great poem and expression of feelings.

    Great poem and expression of feelings. We can only hope that at the end of his journey, he will have met that special someone who gave him a smile and encouragement that he is not alone. There are, unfortunately, many children and adults who never receive that smile and love. Let each of us be that person - to reach out, smile and let them know they are not alone.

    The description of the body language (shoulders, hands, head) in the first stanza created a very clear image in my mind.

soLs: a week

Slice of Life Stories hosted by the  Two Writing Teachers I can't believe it's already been one whole week. Sometimes vacations are over in a blink, but other times vacations move slowly to enjoy every moment.  That's how this vacation is going - slowly, but with so much to enjoy. Of course, it is hard being away from home and the every-day-usual, but what I have truly enjoyed the most is the evenings.  After the girls are tucked in bed, it becomes my time to do what I choose to do because I have NO to-do list!  Nothing!  No cleaning, no laundry (thanks Mom!), no dinner (thanks Dad!), no dishes, no nothing.  Instead I have guilt-free time to read books, browse Twitter, catch up on blog reading, scrounge...

soLs: a (proud) little secret
