sols: a children's prayer

Slice of Life Stories hosted

A little moment from my family blog:

Every night we say prayers on the floor of the girls' bedroom.  P usually sits by Momma.  M wanders and crawls about the room even though every night we ask her to sit still.  (We even tried to tell her that's what God wanted her to do . . . didn't work.)

Tonight was no different.  We folded our hands and began our recited prayer.

"Now I lay me down to sleep . . . "  I peeked open my eyes to watch M.  P whispered to me to close my eyes.

"I pray the Lord our souls to keep . . . "  M pushed her folded hands towards our folded hands, a little game.

"Lord be with us through the night . . ."  M giggled and bounced on her knees.

"And keep us safe till morning bright. God bless . . ."  M tried completing a somersault in the cramped space between us and the cribs.

Daddy finished off the prayer as M continued to move about, unable to sit still.

"Amen."  We said in unison.

"No, I God bless now."  M said.

"God bless Mommy, Daddy, P, and CJ.  The church. All the children at school."

P added, "All the peoples at church and the kids at school."

And then M jumped right back in with, "All the king's horses and all the king's men."

We couldn't help but laugh out loud!

Little moments.  Quick to make you smile.  Quick to forget.
Just write.  Little moments.

  2. M just marches to that different drummer, right? What a sweet, but funny moment. I'm looking forward to more from these two, Michelle.

  3. M is going to be quick in her responses and P is right behind - just waiting for her opening. And you don't think M's listening - ahh, she hears every word and takes it all in, until the right moment. It was so much fun watching and listening to both M & P when I visited! Thanks for sharing this moment and for saving it to be read many years in the future.

  4. I love this! Thanks for giving me my morning laugh. Between you and me I love that M is independent in her thinking even when told "the big guy" wants her to do something! :-)

  8. Thanks for the smiles! Makes me remember when my daughter was little. I can still see her bouncing around and singing, "Jump, jump, jump on the bed, the Bible tells me so." I love your closing words... Just write. Little moments.

An Interview with Educator/Momma/Writer Ruth Ayres Celebrating #EnticingWriters + Giveaway!

I love sharing book titles with close friends, so I'm happy you are here! I want to share a book that you must add to your to-be-read list. Ruth Ayres has a brand new book titled  Enticing Hard-To-Reach Writers   published by Stenhouse Publishers. It's another must read from Ruth. There are many professional development books available to learn about mastering our craft of teaching.   However, there are only a few that make a true impact -- and this is one book that weaves raw truth, research, practical ideas, and story all in one {cute} little package.  In  Enticing Hard-To-Reach Writers , Ruth allows her worlds to collide during the creation:  "In this book, I entwine my three story lines as educator, momma, and writer." (p. 6) And she does this in an amazing way through sharing stories of her family, adoption, children living in hard places -- and doing their best  -- and healing. She shares how we can use research to understand how to
