SOLSC: Ode to Celebrating

The Slice of Life Story Challenge
is hosted by the Two Writing Teachers.

Ode to Celebrating

Amazing how one little month can change your outlook, your perspective, and your ideals on numerous layers in your life.

This is the community I've been yearning to be apart of for years. I stumbled. I fell. I became a writer.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Sharing my innermost thoughts and emotions
Listening with an open heart and mind
Ignoring my must-do list and overflowing bag
Challenging my writer-self to create
Every single day

Opportunities for you and me to
Forge a consortium of writers

Learning more than I ever anticipated as
Immense writer-confidence and writer-pride escapes
Feeling a sense of accomplishment like never before
Every single day

  1. What a perfect way to transition from Slice of Life to National Poetry Month! If I could tell you anything, from an old mom to a new, I would tell you to start slicing for your girls right now. Put them in a scrap book, or shutterfly, or just print them out in a three ring notebook and give them to them each year on their birthday. I sooo wish I had done that for my boys.

  2. I enjoyed reading all your words-looking forward to more. The acrostic is cool. I did one too, but of course different, & not as long. Fun way to start poetry month, though. Happy writing!

  3. Your words couldn't be more perfect. You summed up this adventure in such a unique way. It has been a wonderful journey and a growing experience. I love how you wrote that this is the community you've been yearning for...I feel the same way. Happy writing and hopefully we'll see you on Tuesday's.

  5. Your intro to the poem was as poetic as the poem itself. Your writing has such an honest openness to it that makes it a pleasure to read (like I am being let in on something special).

  6. Love the intro to your poem and the poem itself. Capture the heart of the challenge. I think. I have so enjoyed following you during the challenge. Can't wait to read more.

  7. I've learned a ton too. It is nice to know that there are other literacy coaches out there with similar challenges and goals.

An Interview with Educator/Momma/Writer Ruth Ayres Celebrating #EnticingWriters + Giveaway!

I love sharing book titles with close friends, so I'm happy you are here! I want to share a book that you must add to your to-be-read list. Ruth Ayres has a brand new book titled  Enticing Hard-To-Reach Writers   published by Stenhouse Publishers. It's another must read from Ruth. There are many professional development books available to learn about mastering our craft of teaching.   However, there are only a few that make a true impact -- and this is one book that weaves raw truth, research, practical ideas, and story all in one {cute} little package.  In  Enticing Hard-To-Reach Writers , Ruth allows her worlds to collide during the creation:  "In this book, I entwine my three story lines as educator, momma, and writer." (p. 6) And she does this in an amazing way through sharing stories of her family, adoption, children living in hard places -- and doing their best  -- and healing. She shares how we can use research to understand how to
