{staying silent to listen} #sos

The world is flipped upside down.
Trying to wrap my brain around it.

Staying silent to listen
To hear the cries.

Hard to focus and concentrate
Or think about anything else.

Staying silent to listen
To hear the power of words.

Reading, sorting, gathering
Resources, videos, book titles, blog posts.

Staying silent to listen
To hear the stories.

To really, really l.i.s.t.e.n.

Trying to hear all sides of a
very complicated issue and timeline.

Staying silent to listen
To open my eyes.

Wanting to teach my daughters
What is true and right and just.

Staying silent to listen
To hear what I can do.

Capturing the essence of
what I need to do in my classroom.

Staying silent to listen
To hear and deeply understand.

Trying to wrap my brain around
this world that is flipped upside down.

  2. So much to listen to as we quiet the tumult - love your suggestions. LISTEN to hear the cries, to hear the stories, to open (our) eyes, to hear what (we) can do, to hear and deeply understand. Our road lies before us. Thanks for reminding us to listen.

  3. To fully understand is a challenge. We start with listening in order to know what to say and do, to do the right thing.

  4. Listening is what I have been doing as well. So much to take in and learn.

  5. Yes. We must listen and learn and reflect. Then we must speak up for our students, friends and (in my case) extended family members. Thanks for your post!

An Interview with Educator/Momma/Writer Ruth Ayres Celebrating #EnticingWriters + Giveaway!

I love sharing book titles with close friends, so I'm happy you are here! I want to share a book that you must add to your to-be-read list. Ruth Ayres has a brand new book titled  Enticing Hard-To-Reach Writers   published by Stenhouse Publishers. It's another must read from Ruth. There are many professional development books available to learn about mastering our craft of teaching.   However, there are only a few that make a true impact -- and this is one book that weaves raw truth, research, practical ideas, and story all in one {cute} little package.  In  Enticing Hard-To-Reach Writers , Ruth allows her worlds to collide during the creation:  "In this book, I entwine my three story lines as educator, momma, and writer." (p. 6) And she does this in an amazing way through sharing stories of her family, adoption, children living in hard places -- and doing their best  -- and healing. She shares how we can use research to understand how to
