about all of it too.
I'm not a big fan of this so-called love-fest holiday. I mean, I'm all about love and candy and flowers, but why wait for a cold, dreary day in February? Every day should be Valentine's day! I guess I'd rather receive a surprise bouquet of flowers any other day of the year -- but preferably not roses. I know, I know. I sound like I'm quite particular about this holiday that I don't even want to celebrate.
I mentioned to my hubby when we were perusing the aisles at Target over the weekend that we should meander over to the card section to pick out a card for each other. Then we could share it to save the couple extra bucks on a wasted card that gets shoved in a stack of mementos waiting years and years to be savored again.
Needless to say, he didn't go for it. You see, my hubby actually likes Valentine's day. Maybe it's his day to show how romantic he can really be. Maybe I just need to let him enjoy his moment and shine. My husband snuck out of the house Monday evening for a couple items he had to have for work this week. I'm thinking he may have headed out for a little gift . . . for me . . . for Valentine's day.
Maybe I am just hoping. Maybe I am just wishing. Maybe I'm setting him up for failure to not fulfill my expectations that, of course, I really don't have because I could care less about it all.

I'm so with you on the card! It really pains me to spend $3-4 on a piece of cardboard. I hope there is a little surprise coming your way today.

My husband and I are the same way. Fancy schmancy just isn't what we do. We even went out for dinner on Saturday, because we both have busy hectic days today. Hope you get a nice surprise!
ReplyDeleteValentine's Day is a fairly new in Estonia so I have no particular feelings about it. It's actually called Friend's Day and children like it the most. Mimm sent us to our mailbox today. We found a small card and a chocolate bar she had taken from the kitchen cupboard. Sweet gift.

I say it is not a big deal, yet I got excited when I see that my husband bought roses this morning. AND, I'm making a huge dinner tonight in honor of this wacky day. It's dinner at home, so that's not too over the top, right?

ReplyDeleteI L-O-V-E this day, especially working in an elementary school. The kids beam when they bring us little cards or chocolates, and we get to tell the kids that didn't that the best "gift" they give us is great attitudes and participation.

My family is indifferent to this day. My son calls it "remember you're single day." While my husband usually poo-poos the whole thing, he didn't mind my greeting this morning when I said "Happy to be married to you Day."

I am with you! This is why I am afraid of elementary school. I just can't do silly celebrations. I can handle the middle school skirts, teddy bears, and tears, though!
ReplyDeleteI understand, yet in my house I guess Valentine's Day in my house held a different meaning b/c on Valentine's day was the day my youngest brother arrived to be part of our family from Korea! He was adopted from Korea & he arrived at the airport on Valentine's Day & we always celebrated big on this day! Hope you found something sweet to help you enjoy it a little bit!
