{saying goodbye}

Saying goodbye

This week has been full of many kinds of goodbyes ...
I've been trying to remind myself:
It's not goodbye forever -- it's until we meet again.

To staff and colleagues waving through a computer screen

To my students through snail-mail in a postcard

To fifth graders moving on to junior high

To trusted teachers and staff at my daughters' school

To the last two months of doing school online

To a school year full of joy and hope ... and strife and stress

To the last day of school today

Saying goodbye is always hard.
But closure is necessary to move on.
So goodbye until we meet again.

And hello summer.

Comments

  1. Closure is needed, but this closure sure leaves a lot to be desired. I know the "what will school be like" questions will be present all summer long, but try to enjoy the time and explore new passions this summer.

  2. As much as I look forward to summer, I still feel like it can't start yet because there are so many things that feel unfinished. May we all find some peace and celebration along the way!

  3. Strange good-byes this year, aren't they? I still have two weeks to go. I hope your summer will feel free and joyful!

  4. Your poetry always captures the heart of things. My favorite line is the last one. Hellos are usually so much more fun the goodbyes.

  5. This one got me all emotional! This was our last week of school too. So many feelings.

  6. It's been a strange few months and one that will be remembered. So hard to say good-bye when you can't be close to your students and co-workers. Praying that come Fall, this will all be behind us and we can find a new sense of normal. Love ya, Mom

An Interview with Educator/Momma/Writer Ruth Ayres Celebrating #EnticingWriters + Giveaway!

I love sharing book titles with close friends, so I'm happy you are here! I want to share a book that you must add to your to-be-read list. Ruth Ayres has a brand new book titled  Enticing Hard-To-Reach Writers   published by Stenhouse Publishers. It's another must read from Ruth. There are many professional development books available to learn about mastering our craft of teaching.   However, there are only a few that make a true impact -- and this is one book that weaves raw truth, research, practical ideas, and story all in one {cute} little package.  In  Enticing Hard-To-Reach Writers , Ruth allows her worlds to collide during the creation:  "In this book, I entwine my three story lines as educator, momma, and writer." (p. 6) And she does this in an amazing way through sharing stories of her family, adoption, children living in hard places -- and doing their best  -- and healing. She shares how we can use research to understand how to
