I wrote a different slice for today.

A reflective slice about education.
After a positive PD inservice.
About asking the right questions.
Seeing the future of modern learning.
Thinking of myself as a learner.

I wrote a different slice for today.

A slice about the romance of education.
The beautiful, enticing future of learning.
About the opposite reality of what teachers live.
Everyday as we walk deep, deeper in the trenches.
Frustrated living between the worlds of romance and reality.

I wrote a different slice for today.

A slice that came from my heart.
Sharing with some close to me.
Not knowing the reaction from all.
Worried about what others will think.
Not brave enough to share just yet.

I wrote a different slice for today ... maybe I'll share it tomorrow.

  4. This is how I feel every time I read a professional book: "...the romance of education.
The beautiful, enticing future of learning.
About the opposite reality of what teachers live." In fact, I generally try to avoid them during the school year because they can be very anxiety inducing! I read over the summer, when everything seems possible. :) Can't wait for you to share the "real" post for today!

  5. Wow, you described my feelings of hopefulness and yet the realities of education and the frustration and longing it gives me for something better for our kids. Can't wait to read it...

  6. You always write with your heart and bare your sole. Read and re-read what you have written and share it if this is truly in your mind. Sometimes when we write things down and then re-read them, we find that it has relieved your frustrations. I truly feel that you will get a lot of positive and understanding comments. Love ya, Mom

  8. It's difficult to put ourselves out there. We don't want any regrets after the moment. Think time is good though. Of course I'm curious but it's not about me so you only share if you want.

  9. Looking forward to tomorrow's post, Michelle - you've piqued my curiosity.

  11. Beautiful writing! You are building suspense and that is so much fun! Thank you for getting me interested in what is coming next!!!

  12. You need to share it Michelle, because so many will agree with you! You are so passionate about learning and teaching, try not to let it get you down. You are making a huge difference one child at a time! xoxo

  13. The romance of what we believe and the reality of what we live applies to so much more than teaching and learning. Follow your heart, but think with your head... again the romance and the reality. It's ok if you keep your writing in your notebook and share one day when the time is right for you.

  14. Thanks for all your comments! I did not intend to write it to entice you or build any suspense. I just was not ready yet to share the slice .... so I wrote this in its place! ~Michelle

An Interview with Educator/Momma/Writer Ruth Ayres Celebrating #EnticingWriters + Giveaway!

I love sharing book titles with close friends, so I'm happy you are here! I want to share a book that you must add to your to-be-read list. Ruth Ayres has a brand new book titled  Enticing Hard-To-Reach Writers   published by Stenhouse Publishers. It's another must read from Ruth. There are many professional development books available to learn about mastering our craft of teaching.   However, there are only a few that make a true impact -- and this is one book that weaves raw truth, research, practical ideas, and story all in one {cute} little package.  In  Enticing Hard-To-Reach Writers , Ruth allows her worlds to collide during the creation:  "In this book, I entwine my three story lines as educator, momma, and writer." (p. 6) And she does this in an amazing way through sharing stories of her family, adoption, children living in hard places -- and doing their best  -- and healing. She shares how we can use research to understand how to
