solsc: middle of the day 24/31

The start of my spring break has been just perfect.  With this loooong winter and so many changes happening in my district, this break was much needed.  I've had this longing for stress-free living.

Sunday afternoon as the girls napped (yeah!), I actually lounged on the couch under a blanket sipping hot chocolate in the middle of the day.

I wondered aloud, "When was the last time I just sat and relaxed in the middle of the day?"

I held my breath because I said this out loud with my husband in the room, waiting for a suggestion of how I could productively use my time. There are always things to do around the house or for the girls or for school or for me, especially on a Sunday before the week begins again.

"Probably four years ago before the girls were born," he replied.  "Or last week when you took a nap with them."

I let out a sigh.  I gave him a "you're right" kind of look and said, "I meant awake."

Then I sat on the couch in the middle of the day and thought in quiet.  And I enjoyed doing nothing.

  2. It is so important to take care of ourselves so we can better take care of others. As a retired teacher now, I often wonder how I did it all. But you do, and you will. Enjoy every moment of it!

  3. Sometimes doing nothing is the best thing we can do for ourselves. Glad you had the opportunity to do it.

  4. It's wonderful to lounge sipping hot chocolate, but the sad part is this is spring! We shouldn't need a blanket or hot drink. I hope the rest of your break is filled with warmer moments like this. :-)

  5. You described a perfect way of being. The fact that it happens seldom makes it special.

  6. Such a nice feeling. It makes me happy just reading it! Enjoy these moments during your break. We are on spring break as well. I am gearing up for a busy spring term and really looking forward to summer break this year in particular in order to catch my breath a little.

{#sol15} deeper than beauty 8/31

The March Slice of Life Story Challenge hosted  at the  Two Writing Teachers Join us for a month of writing! I have twin four and a half -- almost five! -- year old daughters.  I try to be consciously aware of what I say and do in regards to my body image and self-esteem and also with their body image and self-esteem. First of all, because I don't want them to believe everything that society says is true.  Even if they don't fully understand it today.  In addition, because they are fraternal twin sisters, I want them to understand they are individuals with unique and different bodies that God created for each of them.   However, society -- including my loving family and friends -- tell a different story and harmlessly create a comparison war.   My girls constantly hear how beautiful, adorable, cute, fill-i...

sols: a gift of words

Slice of Life  hosted  at the  Two Writing Teachers . Join in and share a slice of your life. One of the best gifts I give myself is time to write Monday evenings for the Tuesday Slice of Life.  That writing time allows me the opportunity to think about the little moments in my life.  Sometimes those moments are big and important.  Other times it's a funny moment that made me laugh.  Or a celebration, a word, a poem about the ordinary life.  I'm still amazed that I have been writing each week for over three years! Yet, there is another gift . . . My mom and dad have published my writing.  Just this past Christmas, I received volume five of my blog writing.  Yes, I have five books f...
