{#sol15} a slice of inspiration 17/31

The March Slice of Life Story Challenge
hosted at the Two Writing Teachers
Join us for a month of writing!

A slice of inspiration ...

I have read numerous slices this month and over the years that hold powerful words and messages.

Powerful words that make me stop and think.
Powerful words that strike my heart.
Powerful words that will stay with me for a long time.

I read a slice last week by my writing friend Terje -- catching the light.  She wrote words that I wanted to remember.  I jokingly suggested in my comment that "we" should make a poster capturing her photographs and words ...

Sweet Terje responded to me in an email letting me know that I was welcome to create a poster as she currently lacked the skills and tools.  I smiled because when I suggested "we" make the poster, I meant "she" because I didn't think I had the skills or tools either!

But then over the weekend I read  Michelle's celebration slice at One Grateful Teacher.  She shared a new app -- a new app that creates amazing posters!  I quickly downloaded the free version of Vanillapen and started creating.  What fun!

I uploaded Terje's gorgeous tulip photographs ... and then added her powerful words ...

Then I played some more ... a different photograph, varied the size, fonts, and colors.

Then I recalled another app I learned about last week.  Waterlogue is an app that Stacey at Raising a Literate Human shared and I fell in love with this app.  It is quite amazing as it takes your photograph and transforms it -- in front of your eyes -- into a watercolor painting.

So cool, right?  And then I added Terje's powerful message that I want to remember:

And to think that I wasn't sure about creating an amazing poster.  The tools were shared and I just had to spend a little time playing.

Posters created in as easy as a click, swipe, and save on my phone!  Enjoy these posters for your own personal use and enjoy creating your own!

Thank you to Terje, Michelle, and Stacey for your inspiration ...
all because you paid it forward and shared!

An Interview with Educator/Momma/Writer Ruth Ayres Celebrating #EnticingWriters + Giveaway!

I love sharing book titles with close friends, so I'm happy you are here! I want to share a book that you must add to your to-be-read list. Ruth Ayres has a brand new book titled  Enticing Hard-To-Reach Writers   published by Stenhouse Publishers. It's another must read from Ruth. There are many professional development books available to learn about mastering our craft of teaching.   However, there are only a few that make a true impact -- and this is one book that weaves raw truth, research, practical ideas, and story all in one {cute} little package.  In  Enticing Hard-To-Reach Writers , Ruth allows her worlds to collide during the creation:  "In this book, I entwine my three story lines as educator, momma, and writer." (p. 6) And she does this in an amazing way through sharing stories of her family, adoption, children living in hard places -- and doing their best  -- and healing. She shares how we can use research to understand how to
