August 10th is a big day.  It's the day of sharing lists of your ten favorite picture books.

August 25th is also a big day.  It's the day my two girls start kindergarten.

I've been thinking a lot about both ... and then it hit me.

My #pb10for10 book theme was "I wish you ..."  I thought about all that I wished for my girls as they begin this special journey this year in kindergarten and connected the wish to a picture book.

And the words just poured from my heart ...

I shared my picture book list yesterday and I want to thank Susan for making this connection for me:

Here is my love letter to my daughters and all that I wish:

  1. Michelle, this is absolutely priceless. Thank you for sharing your (our) wishes for the girls (and you too). They will love school and all that they learn. They will get upset when things don't go absolutely as they want, but that's how they'll learn patience and understanding. I wish for you and the girls lots of joy and happiness and I pray that God will walk with each of you as you enter a new phase in your lives. Hugs & lots of love, Mom

  2. Michelle, the image you posted is a perfect eduinspiration for the Hall of EduHero Voices (http://beyondliteracylink.blogspot.com/2015/05/hall-of-eduhero-voices.html). Would you like me to post it? Great job. Good luck to your twins as they start their learning journey.

  6. What a heartfelt list and letter to your girls. I think that I will save this and reference back to it for my granddaughter when she starts school.

  7. Loved your #pb10for10. I WISH YOU MORE is my current favorite picture book! I love it. And I love your post. But, wait. Wasn't it just a couple of weeks ago that you were blogging about potty training them?

  8. Michelle,
I love hearing the stories behind #pb10for10 lists. Your list was heartfelt. Thanks for joining us again this year. Like Carol, it seems they were just two last week. How did they get to be old enough for kindergarten already? Time flies.

An Interview with Educator/Momma/Writer Ruth Ayres Celebrating #EnticingWriters + Giveaway!

I love sharing book titles with close friends, so I'm happy you are here! I want to share a book that you must add to your to-be-read list. Ruth Ayres has a brand new book titled  Enticing Hard-To-Reach Writers   published by Stenhouse Publishers. It's another must read from Ruth. There are many professional development books available to learn about mastering our craft of teaching.   However, there are only a few that make a true impact -- and this is one book that weaves raw truth, research, practical ideas, and story all in one {cute} little package.  In  Enticing Hard-To-Reach Writers , Ruth allows her worlds to collide during the creation:  "In this book, I entwine my three story lines as educator, momma, and writer." (p. 6) And she does this in an amazing way through sharing stories of her family, adoption, children living in hard places -- and doing their best  -- and healing. She shares how we can use research to understand how to
