A week ago I celebrated my birthday.  It was a big birthday of sorts.  After living with that birthday for a week, it really seems as if not much has changed.

Another year, another number.  I guess I'm good with being forty {sigh}.

This weekend I was lucky enough to meet up with a dear friend and fellow slicer.  She gave me one of the best birthday gifts ...

My very own sparkly and purply and glittery board (with a side of delicious chocolate).

I remembered seeing visions of the fabulous #glitterboards on Twitter mentioned by the always sharing and inspiring JoEllen McCarthy.

It didn't take me long to find the perfect spot in my classroom, right by my door and across from my classroom library, to share words of insight and inspiration.

Thank you, Chris, for one of my favorite birthday gifts that will bring me -- and all those that visit my classroom -- the joy and power of words!  And, of course, a little reminder of you ... every day!

  12. Happy birthday. Great friend and a great gift! I love the idea of a glitter board with changing quotes. Sometimes I write student quotes on the white board ("Thinking is a great tool.")and it would be fun to have a more dynamic, glitzy setting. Neil Gaiman is eminently quotable, isn't he?

  15. Humm...glitter boards, that's new to me and I like it. I really like it. You have even found the perfect quote to place on it and the perfect place to share that quote. About that {forty sigh}...been there, done that. No worries, it's all good and you'll be fine.

  17. I know that at certain age ( just kidding) the gifts don't matter so much any more but sometimes some gifts are wonderful to get. The glitter board will lift your mood for a long time.

The March Slice of Life Story Challenge hosted  at the  Two Writing Teachers Join us for a month of writing! I have twin four and a half -- almost five! -- year old daughters.  I try to be consciously aware of what I say and do in regards to my body image and self-esteem and also with their body image and self-esteem. First of all, because I don't want them to believe everything that society says is true.  Even if they don't fully understand it today.  In addition, because they are fraternal twin sisters, I want them to understand they are individuals with unique and different bodies that God created for each of them.   However, society -- including my loving family and friends -- tell a different story and harmlessly create a comparison war.   My girls constantly hear how beautiful, adorable, cute, fill-i...

sols: a gift of words

Slice of Life  hosted  at the  Two Writing Teachers . Join in and share a slice of your life. One of the best gifts I give myself is time to write Monday evenings for the Tuesday Slice of Life.  That writing time allows me the opportunity to think about the little moments in my life.  Sometimes those moments are big and important.  Other times it's a funny moment that made me laugh.  Or a celebration, a word, a poem about the ordinary life.  I'm still amazed that I have been writing each week for over three years! Yet, there is another gift . . . My mom and dad have published my writing.  Just this past Christmas, I received volume five of my blog writing.  Yes, I have five books f...
