sols: in a blink

Slice of Life hosted at the

Blink.
Blink.
Blink.
And now they are
three.

My darling daughters
celebrated their third!?!
 birthday last week with
a family party
on Saturday afternoon.

Everything was ready.
Decorations and balloons
all Minnie Mouse theme.
Snacks to nibble and time
to converse, catch up, and chat.

Family and friends
began arriving
with colorful
presents waiting
to be ripped opened.

The girls couldn't wait
any longer seeing
the gifts pile up.
Curious of what
was hiding inside.

A pink buggy for their baby dolls,
new doggies, and Minnie Mouse.
A rolling suitcase,
more books, and
clothes tossed on the side.

Time to sing
the birthday song,
make a wish, and blow!
Ice cream and cupcakes
with frosting all over.

More time to chat
outside to enjoy
the beautiful day
playing with new toys
up and down the driveway.

S  l  o  w  l  y
the party ended
until peace and
{quiet}
settled in our home.

And now
it's time to enjoy
being three before --
Blink.
They are four.

  3. It really does go by so quickly. Mine are eleven and eight, and it seems as if I just held them coming home from the hospital. Glad the birthday was a success!

  4. I know how did it happen??? More important to remember to stop and smell the roses and enjoy each and every moment each and every new memory that will be made. Happy birthday!!!

  5. I've been reading you for so long that it doesn't seem possible to me either! Enjoy this time!

  6. How fast it does go, Michelle. I remember when they were barely walking! Happy Birthday to your girls!

  7. Isn't it just amazing how fast time moves? I used to think it was funny when my parents said that. Not so funny anymore! My kiddos are 10, 7, 4, 1, but I'm pretty sure we brought them each home from the hospital just yesterday! I really need to stop blinking!

  9. Regrettably, it has been awhile since I have visited your blog! I just love your poetry and it inspires to go outside my confort zone. Thanks for another great post and enjoy those special moments because "in a blink" you know they will be all grown up!

  10. Happy Birthday! And enjoy the year of being three.

  11. Oh, it was so fun to have this window into your day. We were always a bit crazy because my two were born one day apart (with almost two years in between). Those birthday party days are just memories for me now, but I still love making their day special even though I have to enlist the postal service to help me.

  12. Blink and they are 30...hmm...such a sweet post. I could almost taste the cupcakes. I love the part when you said clothes tossed to the side. That will most likely change in the years to come. :)

  13. Yes, where has the time flown. They are so adorable (not just Grammy talking). We had such a great time with y'all and you put in to much time and effort to make their day extra special. I think they would have stopped opening up presents after the first one. Enjoy every minute because they grow so quickly (just like my baby did!)

  14. So true for so many things...blink and things change. That is why we try to capture some of it so we can savor it slowly later on. Thank you for the special way you share your life with us.

  15. I especially loved your first and last stanzas - such a creative way to capture how quickly children grow. Enjoy the threes!

  16. Blink and your daughter blows out 18 candles. Love your poetry. Hope you had a fun day.
My daughter is spending the summer 2000 miles away. I will hold her closer the next few days.

  17. Hang on, time will speed by, faster every year. Happy birthday to your little ones.

  18. Happy birthday to your sweet girls. I feel your pain...I've tried the toothpicks in your eyes approach but it doesn't work. Let me know if you find a way to freeze them so they stop growing.

  19. So, so, so true. You blink and another year has flown by and pretty soon they are on their way out the door! Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

  20. Happy belated birthday! Three with two of them is going to be fun and amazing.

An Interview with Educator/Momma/Writer Ruth Ayres Celebrating #EnticingWriters + Giveaway!

I love sharing book titles with close friends, so I'm happy you are here! I want to share a book that you must add to your to-be-read list. Ruth Ayres has a brand new book titled  Enticing Hard-To-Reach Writers   published by Stenhouse Publishers. It's another must read from Ruth. There are many professional development books available to learn about mastering our craft of teaching.   However, there are only a few that make a true impact -- and this is one book that weaves raw truth, research, practical ideas, and story all in one {cute} little package.  In  Enticing Hard-To-Reach Writers , Ruth allows her worlds to collide during the creation:  "In this book, I entwine my three story lines as educator, momma, and writer." (p. 6) And she does this in an amazing way through sharing stories of her family, adoption, children living in hard places -- and doing their best  -- and healing. She shares how we can use research to understand how to
