Saying goodbye
This week has been full of many kinds of goodbyes ...
I've been trying to remind myself:
It's not goodbye forever -- it's until we meet again.
To staff and colleagues waving through a computer screen
To my students through snail-mail in a postcard
To fifth graders moving on to junior high
To trusted teachers and staff at my daughters' school
To the last two months of doing school online
To a school year full of joy and hope ... and strife and stress
To the last day of school today
Saying goodbye is always hard.
But closure is necessary to move on.
So goodbye until we meet again.
And hello summer.
Closure is needed, but this closure sure leaves a lot to be desired. I know the "what will school be like" questions will be present all summer long, but try to enjoy the time and explore new passions this summer.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I look forward to summer, I still feel like it can't start yet because there are so many things that feel unfinished. May we all find some peace and celebration along the way!
ReplyDeleteStrange good-byes this year, aren't they? I still have two weeks to go. I hope your summer will feel free and joyful!
ReplyDeleteYour poetry always captures the heart of things. My favorite line is the last one. Hellos are usually so much more fun the goodbyes.
ReplyDeleteThis one got me all emotional! This was our last week of school too. So many feelings.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a strange few months and one that will be remembered. So hard to say good-bye when you can't be close to your students and co-workers. Praying that come Fall, this will all be behind us and we can find a new sense of normal. Love ya, Mom
