I read the other Ruth's "The Good and the Bad" slice last night and immediately thought of the book: Good News, Bad News by Jeff Mack.  An adorable (and simple) book about two friends trying to enjoy a picnic...but then it starts to rain -- and the good news, bad news cycle goes on.  


Good News, Bad News: Spring Edition

The good news . . . I think I maybe saw a glimpse of spring today!
The bad news -- it's not here to stay.

The good news . . . there was a beautiful bright blue cloudless sky!
The bad news -- the deceitful clear sky was filled with frigid cold air. 

The good news . . . the sun was enticing and warmed my soul!
The bad news -- the sun's kisses only touched my face through a window. 

The good news . . . the snow piles are slowing disappearing!
The bad news -- more snow is arriving to lay a (hopefully) final blanket.

The good news . . . green is emerging from the frozen ground!
The bad news -- the true color of spring will be erased with white snow.

The good news . . ."No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn." -Hal Borland
The bad news -- winter still has hold with freezing cold hands.

    You're in Illinois too, right? I'm dreading the snow tomorrow - I was thinking we were done. Silly me. :)

    I love this book. And I love how you borrowed his format. In Colorado:
    The good news: Today is the first day of our spring break.
    The bad news: We woke up to 6 or 8 inches of snow, and it's still snowing HARD!
    The good news: We really the moisture.
    The bad news: The daffodils I saw yesterday are probably squished.
    The good news: I have great slices like yours to read.

    very cute Michelle! We are feeling the sme treatment here in MO. I enjoyed your words " the true color of spring will be erased with white snow." How thoughtful of you to include a quote as well! Makes me assured that Spring will eventually arrive! Your posts are the ones I can go back and read again and again! Thank you

    This is a cute reflection on the ridiculous weather that is happening now. I hope that this is the last snowfall for the season also.

    The good news/bad news captures spring in the Midwest this year. I'm kind of looking forward to one last snow, especially since being on break will give me time to play in it, but I am ready for spring, too.

    I enjoyed reading your good news/bad news format today, as I did Ruth's too. The back and forth of the piece seems like a conversation to me. Or maybe an argument between Mrs. Positive and Mrs. Negative. Fun!

    Here's to enjoying the last bit of winter before spring really does arrive for you! Some of our tulips have been popping up. Our relatives a couple of hours away had snow again, but this week we just had some rain. It seems like spring really is here for us. We'll see though.

    I enjoyed the format. It is always nice to see how we can grow from each other/receive inspiration through the slicing community.

    Love the words you chose - deceitful, frigid, enticing, and more. Seesaw pattern is one of my favorite structures. Sigh, the snow will be coming again here too. Hope your parents make it before the snow comes.

    I enjoyed your structure for today's writing. Actually my day seemed much like your day. The sun was shining, the temperature was warmer, and it felt like spring. Tomorrow they are saying 6-8 inches of snow. The bad news: it's my spring break. Oh well, maybe the rest of my family will get a snow day Monday and we can hang out together.

    I like the seesaw - back and forth of the good news/bad news in your slice. Hopefully, this will be the end of that white stuff and spring can pop thru. Good news - we made it before the snow arrived Bad news - it's still cold. Good news we get to play an extra day Bad news - it will go by so quickly.

The March Slice of Life Story Challenge hosted  at the  Two Writing Teachers Join us for a month of writing! I have twin four and a half -- almost five! -- year old daughters.  I try to be consciously aware of what I say and do in regards to my body image and self-esteem and also with their body image and self-esteem.
