{joy in the ordinary} 13/31 #sol17

__________________________________________________ The March Slice of Life Story Challenge hosted  at the  Two Writing Teachers . Join us for a month of writing! __________________________________________________ It seems that every once in a slice, a writer needs to create a list. I love lists. Lists keep me organized. Lists help me remember. Lists allow me to check off accomplished tasks.   Yesterday, I visited Embekka's slice of Joy . She shared the joy in the ordinary.   Here's a little list of finding thirteen joys in my ordinary ... Girls climbing into bed in the morning to just be Homemade-by-me chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast    Grocery shopping completed by my husband Not...

{mornings} 3/31 #sol16

The March Slice of Life Story Challenge hosted  at the  Two Writing Teachers Join us for a month of writing! _____________________________________________________ Thanks to Cathy Mere for today's slice of inspiration.  Her slice from yesterday about a quiet morning and my comment led to this slice. Mornings are not easy at my house. I'm not an early riser like my husband.  In fact, I love that he slides out of bed way before I do.  I can then spread out feeling the coolness of the sheets as I snuggle deeper under the blankets. That is until my alarm buzzes.  I slowly drag myself out of bed across the bedroom to my dresser.  I hit that snooze button and make my way back to bed without even opening my eyes. Nine minutes later.  Repeat.  And then repeat again.  Until I slowly rea...

solsc: relax 27/31

March Slice of Life Story Challenge  hosted  at the  Two Writing Teachers Join us for a month of writing! I walked in, dropped my purse, and plopped down into the chair. I took a deep breath and reminded myself to just r-e-l-a-x and enjoy. My hair was tugged, clipped up high on my head, pointing in many directions. The mixture was wiped, foils were wrapped, and the layers grew. Time to sit, chat, and laugh.  Relax, do nothing, worry less. Rinse, wash, and repeat.  I closed my eyes.  Scrub, massage, rinse. I moved to another chair.  Comb, part down the middle, clip here, clip there. Look down.  Snip, snip, snip.  Snip.  Sit up.  Snip, snip, sn...

March Slice of Life Story Challenge  hosted  at the  Two Writing Teachers Join us for a month of writing! Saturdays are for . . . not sleeping in, yet. . . . not rushing out the door to school. . . . whipping up a stack of hot pancakes for breakfast. . . . laughing, silliness, dancing, craziness, imagining, happiness. . . . the luxury of time to play trains, dolls, puzzles around the house. . . . lots and lots of reading. Books from our shelf and from the library too. . . . a mid-day special surprise outing.  Daddy always comes up with an adventure. . . . slowing down life and trying not to stress-worry-overthink about the busyness of the week. Saturdays are for family. ...

solsc: morning routine 8/31

March Slice of Life Story Challenge  hosted  at the  Two Writing Teachers Join us for a month of writing! Yesterday was like any other school day. Once my girls are up and dressed, we head downstairs for breakfast.  This morning P. requested  Mommy's crunchy cereal.  The girls selected their bowls and I served up two bowls of crunchy cereal and milk. The girls are at an age where they want, desire, fight for independence. "I do it." "I wanna do it . . . by myself!" "No!  Me do." Mornings are busy, and this is one of those times I let them practice this sense of independence so that I can accomplish a few tasks.   We cram a lot during a short amount of time before we zip...

a thousand stories

"Everybody walks past a thousand story ideas everyday.  The good writers are the ones who see five or six of them.   Most people don't see any." --Orson Scott Card This quote has been swimming in my head recently.... Driving to work this morning,  the stories were here and there  and everywhere I looked.   I grabbed my notebook and  scribbled.   Scribbled words.  Scribbled ideas.   Scribbled moments.   Scribbled stories. There are stories all around us waiting to be told.   Are you willing to slow down and grab hold?   Find the words to share a small moment. Go on. Start scribbling a thousand stories.
