sols: a children's prayer

A little moment from my family blog:

Every night we say prayers on the floor of the girls' bedroom.  P usually sits by Momma.  M wanders and crawls about the room even though every night we ask her to sit still.  (We even tried to tell her that's what God wanted her to do . . . didn't work.)

Tonight was no different.  We folded our hands and began our recited prayer.

"Now I lay me down to sleep . . . "  I peeked open my eyes to watch M.  P whispered to me to close my eyes.

"I pray the Lord our souls to keep . . . "  M pushed her folded hands towards our folded hands, a little game.

"Lord be with us through the night . . ."  M giggled and bounced on her knees.

"And keep us safe till morning bright. God bless . . ."  M tried completing a somersault in the cramped space between us and the cribs.

Daddy finished off the prayer as M continued to move about, unable to sit still.

"Amen."  We said in unison.

"No, I God bless now."  M said.

"God bless Mommy, Daddy, P, and CJ.  The church. All the children at school."

P added, "All the peoples at church and the kids at school."  

 And then M jumped right back in with, "All the king's horses and all the king's men." 

We couldn't help but laugh out loud!

Little moments.  Quick to make you smile.  Quick to forget.  
Just write.  Little moments.

    M is going to be quick in her responses and P is right behind - just waiting for her opening. And you don't think M's listening - ahh, she hears every word and takes it all in, until the right moment. It was so much fun watching and listening to both M & P when I visited! Thanks for sharing this moment and for saving it to be read many years in the future.

    Thanks for the smiles! Makes me remember when my daughter was little. I can still see her bouncing around and singing, "Jump, jump, jump on the bed, the Bible tells me so." I love your closing words... Just write. Little moments.

The March Slice of Life Story Challenge hosted  at the  Two Writing Teachers Join us for a month of writing! I have twin four and a half -- almost five! -- year old daughters.  I try to be consciously aware of what I say and do in regards to my body image and self-esteem and also with their body image and self-esteem.
