sols: ten minutes

I wasn't sure I was going to write today.
But I felt the need to write.
"Just ten minutes," Stacey said.

Go.

Just when you think life can't get any busier, it does.

planning
teaching
listening
reading

meetings
listening
supporting
breathing

reviewing
reading
searching
studying

rushing
swimming
playing
jumping

Change is happening all around me.  And I take deep breaths knowing change can be difficult, but change can be good.  My current principal accepted a new position and we move ahead with a principal search.  Tonight I found myself reading resumes, applications, and letters of recommendation for several highly qualified candidates.

In the midst of trying to do my best as a mom, teacher, colleague, and friend.  Staring at my "babies" who will soon be four years old.  Excuse me, but where does that time really go?!?

Yet, I am thankful for my strength in the only One who can provide me with strength every day, every hour, every minute.

Stop.

That's all it took to write my slice this late evening.
"Just ten minutes, " Stacey said.
March will truly be a challenge, but ten minutes I can do.

sols: one little note

Have you ever had one of "those" days?
A day where you feel deflated and exhausted?  Busy and unbalanced?
And then in one little moment your day turned right side up?

An email arrived in the middle of the day with
an unexpected note from a friend with impeccable timing
that whispered, "I'm thinking of you and hope all is well."

Thoughtful words that --
Made me smile.
Gave me strength.
Filled my soul.

So, do me a favor?
Go now. Send an email to a friend.
Let them know you are thinking of them.

A gift of words reaching out
that meant the world to me.
Let your words do the same for another.

sols: learning exhaustion

Today I was honored to be a part of the interview team for my school district's future directory of literacy.

Those are BIG shoes.

I reviewed the job description.  It is packed full of ideals and roles and expectations.

After meeting with three candidates...

I was reinvigorated with the possibility of leadership that is genuine, understanding, and forward-thinking while still holding onto the values of literacy instruction.

I was reaffirmed in my beliefs and knowledge about literacy, best practices, and learning.

I was reminded that there are teachers and leaders who have that same passion and drive as I do about literacy.

Our district is moving, changing, and reinventing education.  I am glad to be apart of such a movement.  And after all that listening, I'm exhausted with ideas swirling around in my head.

It's a good feeling to have.
